Jeep 1

1) Caliper anchor mounting bolts; 2) brake caliper; 3) upper and lower control arm nut/bolt; 4) lower control arm nut/bolt.

This bulletin applies to 2012-2016 Jeep Compass and Patriot vehicles equipped with four-wheel disc brakes. A low frequency moan may be heard during the first brake apply when in reverse while the vehicle is cold or has been parked for several hours. An audio sound file of the moan can be found in DealerCONNECT>TechCONNECT under Service Info>05-Brakes>05-Brakes, Base>Diagnosis and Testing.

If the low frequency moan can be verified, the addition of the anti-vibration bracket may correct the condition. The bracket kit is available as P/N 68244275AB (kit includes two brackets, eight bolts and four nuts).

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.

  2. Remove both rear wheels.

  3. Remove and discard the two bolts securing the disc brake caliper adapter to the brake backing plate.

  4. Secure the brake caliper with the caliper out of the way.

  5. Remove and discard the nut securing the upper and lower control arms to the trailing link, but do not remove the bolts in this step.

  6. Remove and discard the bolt securing the upper control arm to the trailing link and install the new bolt included in the anti-vibration bracket service kit. It may be helpful to use a pry bar to align t lower control arm and the trailing link.

  7. Remove and discard the bolt securing the lower control arm to the trailing link. Install the new bolt included in the kit.

  8. Install the anti-vibration bracket to the upper and lower control arm bolts.

  9. Install the brake caliper with adapter.

  10. Install by hand but do not tighten both of the new longer caliper anchor mounting bolts included in the kit.

  11. Install but do not tighten the new upper and lower control arm nuts from the kit.

  12. Thread the upper and lower control arm nuts fully onto the bolts until no clearance remains between the nuts, anti-vibration bracket and trailing arm, but do not tighten the nuts at this time.

  13. Tighten the caliper anchor mounting bolts to 50 ft-lb.

  14. Repeat the anti-vibration bracket installation process (steps 3-13) for the opposite side before continuing.

  15. Install both rear wheels.

  16. Lower the vehicle.

  17. Position the vehicle on an alignment rack. Raise the vehicle as needed to access the control arm bolts/nuts.

  18. With the vehicle resting at curb height, tighten the bolts and nuts securing the upper and lower control arms to the trailing link to 77 ft-lb.
