Pay Attention to Rubber on BMW

Order Reprints

Closely inspect the rear differential bushing rubber for cracks. While slight surface cranking is normal, full-through cracks require bushing replacement.

BMW 5 and 7 series vehicles rear differential mount bushings should be inspected for signs of cracking. Slight surface cracking of the rubber is normal. However, if the bushing is cracked all the way through, it must be replaced. This is often overlooked, so close inspection is required to determine the rubber condition. New bushings are available as P/N 33 31 6792 872.
