Drivers Are Hitting the Road Again

March 2021 was the first month since August 2019 that vehicle miles traveled exceeded 300 billion, said Chung.
Drivers are getting back on the road this year, creating additional demand for auto service. And used car sales are increasing.
Writing for the Auto Care Association, Mike Chung, the association's director of market intelligence, says that in March, vehicle miles traveled in the U.S. reached their highest point since the summer of 2019.
Additionally, used car sales are increasing, as raw materials and semiconductor supply chain issues disrupt the new car sector.
"With production delays, as well as the possibility for higher priced new vehicles, we may continue to see elevated demand for used vehicles," said Chung. "As many of these vehicles are likely to be out of warranty, that could bode well for the service side of the aftermarket."
