At left is a standard brake disc. At right is a lightweight brake disc. This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with the lightweight brake disc.

This bulletin applies to BMW vehicles equipped with wheel bolt patterns of 5x120 and 5x112.  If a ticking noise is heard coming from a front wheel while cornering without the brakes applied at low speed, it’s likely that microscopic movement of the contact interface between the inner brake disc and the wheel bearing flange on vehicles equipped with lightweight brake discs. Remove both front brake discs and install a friction ring between the brake disc and the wheel bearing flange.

Install a friction ring between the brake disc hat and wheel bearing flange.
