The electric SUV was developed in conjunction with Toyota, which is one of Subaru's largest investors, the company said. Toyota will build the Solterra for the time being in Japan, though Subaru may move production to the U.S. once it has "sufficient sales volume.

"The EV market is not mature yet, so we will respond to it by deepening our cooperation with Toyota," says Tomomi Nakamura, CEP, Subaru.

The front-wheel-drive variation of the EV SUV has a max range of 329 miles, while its all-wheel-drive variant will have a max range of around 285 miles.
