How to Eliminate Knock for Tacoma

This bulletin applies to some 2012-2014 Toyota Tacoma trucks.

Some 2012-2014 Toyota Tacoma trucks equipped with 1GR-FE engines may exhibit a spark knock (detonation) during light acceleration and/or uphill in hot weather (80 degrees F or higher). The engine control module (ECM) logic has been modified to reduce the possibility of this condition. Reprogram the ECM with the latest available software version.

For 2012 models four-wheel drive/two-wheel drive (4WD/2WD) PreRunner with 5-speed automatic, the old calibration ID is 30455000. The new calibration ID is 30455100.

For 2012 models with 2WD and 6-speed manual transmission, the previous calibration ID is 30467000. The new calibration ID is 30467100. For 2012 models with 4WD and 6-speed manual transmission, the previous calibration ID is 30468000. The new calibration ID is 30468100.

For 2013-2014 models 4WD/2WD PreRunner with 5-speed, the previous calibration ID is 30480000. The new calibration ID is 30480100. For 2013-2014 models with 2WD and 6-speed manual transmission, the previous calibration ID is 30481000. The new calibration ID is 30481100. For 2013-2014 with 4WD and 6-speed manual transmission, the previous calibration ID is 30482000. The new calibration ID is 30482100.
