Revised Hoses Needed for Jeep
This bulletin applies to 2011-2013 Jeep Compass/Patriot vehicles, involving installing revised heater hoses, routing the purge solenoid wire harness and installing revised powertrain control module (PCM) software.
Customers may note a clatter or rattle noise from the engine on initial startup after a long, cold soak. The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) may be on. Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P050B (cold start ignition timing performance) may be set.
Replace the transmission shifter cable using part number (P/N) 68024433AC. Remove the right-wheel, inner splash shield. Place a container under the draincock location. Without removing the pressure cap, and with the system not under pressure, turn the draincock counterclockwise to open. The coolant reserve bottle should empty first, then remove the pressure cap. Allow the coolant to drain completely. Remove both the supply and return heater core hoses. Install new heater core supply hose P/N 05058822AB and heater core return hose P/N 05058823AB. Install the inner splash shield.
Remove the engine cover. To ensure that the purge solenoid wiring harness does not come into contact with the heater hoses. The wire harness may require a slight modification.
Loosely pull the purge solenoid wire harness straight and create a bend in the harness about 3/8 to 7/16 inches away from the harness retaining clip edge. The apply 3 to 4 wraps of electrical tape securing the bend in the harness.
Install the engine cover. Fill the cooling system and make sure that no air is trapped. Reprogram the PCM with the latest software and clear any DTCs that may have set.
Re-route the purge solenoid wire harness and secure with tape.
