Mayhew Steel Products acquires Basque Plastics

March 3, 2014

Mayhew Steel Products Inc. announced that it has completed the acquisition of the business assets of Basque Plastics, a high-quality injection molder located in Leominster, Mass.

Mayhew says the city of Leominster’s stature in the manufacturing of plastics is legendary with over 120 plastics companies currently located within the city.

The new company will be called Mayhew Basque Plastics LLC. Mayhew Basque occupies a 30,000-square-foot building located in the Jytek Industrial Park.

Mayhew Basque has 17 molding machines ranging in size from 75 ton to 400 ton. Plans include the immediate addition of two more molding machines capable of producing parts used by Mayhew and other manufacturers.

“The acquisition of Basque Plastics is an excellent strategic fit with Mayhew”, said Mayhew’s president John Lawless.

“It will help Mayhew continue its growth as a manufacturer of high-quality hand tools for the professional market as well allowing Basque to explore new markets in the plastics industry.”

Cliff and Greg Basque, who have over three decades of experience managing the former company, will manage Mayhew Basque Plastics.

“It is our goal to continue providing the highest level of service, and we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with our new customers,” stated Cliff Basque.

Mayhew says that by providing an integrated source of supply for its components, the acquisition allows Mayhew to reduce lead times, inventory costs, and bring items currently sourced overseas back to the United States. All current employees will retain their positions in the new company.
