Leaky FJ Cruiser joint

Nov. 5, 2012

Some 2007-2012 Toyota 2WD FJ Cruiser vehicles may feature a small automatic transmission fluid leak through the driveshaft slip yoke plug in the center of the yoke.

This bulletin applies to vehicles produced before the production change effective VIN JTEZU##F#CK012060.

Confirm that the source of the transmission fluid leak is through the driveshaft slip yoke plug.

Replace the rear driveshaft. NOTE: To prevent damage or contamination of the driveshaft slip yoke or dust cover, do not touch the slip yoke seal surface shaft with bare hands. Be careful not to damage the slip yoke or dust cover by hitting or contacting with other objects. Be careful to avoid allowing the slip yoke or dust cover to contact the ground or a dirty surface prior to installation. Store parts indoors in a clean, dry location prior to installation.

Check transmission fluid level, and add WS ATF as needed to correctly adjust transmission fluid level. Failure to adjust transmission fluid level can cause transmission shifting issues, transmission damage or MIL ON with transmission performance DTCs P2714, P0751, P0756, P0771, P0776 or P0746.
