Shocker: Mitsubishi revises high voltage wire inspection

May 7, 2013

Mitsubishi has released a revised high voltage wire inspection/service procedure to its service manual for the 2012 I-MiEV vehicle.

The affected manual is 2012 I-MiEV Group 00 – General >> Maintenance Service >> 5. High Voltage Wire. Replace the information in the illustration with the following proper procedure.

 5. HIGH VOLTAGE WIRE INSPECT

DANGER: Carry out the check on the high voltage wire while reading carefully the precautions on handling a high-voltage vehicle. (Refer to GROUP 54D – Precautions on how to use the High-voltage Vehicle P.54D – 3).

DANGER: Wear the specified protection equipment during the check.

CHECK THE HIGH VOLTAGE WIRE

-          Visually check electrical wires for twisted wire, damage, discoloration and wire clamps for looseness.

-          Check that electrical wires do not interfere with surrounding components.

 Refer to GROUP 54D – Precautions on how to use the High-voltage Vehicle P. 54D – 5.

CHECK THE HIGH VOLTAGE WIRE TERMINALS

TRACTION BATTERY CABLE AND EV CHARGING CABLE

(QUICK CHARGER) FOR LOOSE CONNECTION

  1. Check high voltage wire connection bolt for looseness.
  2. If connection bolt is loose, tighten connection bolt to the specified torque.

Tightening torque: 7.0 – 3.0 Nm (62 – 26 in-lb)

  1. Install a new O-ring to the Service lid, and then tighten the Service lid to the specified torque.

Tightening torque: 5.0 – 2.0 Nm (44 – 17 in-lb)

NOTE: Refer to GROUP 54D – Traction battery removal and installation P.54D – 667.

 INVERTER

  1. Check high voltage wire connection bolt for looseness.
  2. If connection bolt is loose, tighten connector bolt to the specified torque

Tightening torque: 7.0 – 3.0 Nm (62 – 26 in-lb)

  1. Install a new O-ring to the Service lid in INVERTER, and then tighten the Service lid to the specified torque.

Tightening torque:

Regular bolt 7.0 – 3.0 Nm (62 – 26 in-lb)

Torx bolt 6.0 – 2.0 Nm (53 – 17 in-lb)

NOTE: refer to GROUP 54D – Inverter removal and installation P.54D – 487.

CHARGING CONNECTOR (REGULAR CHARGER, QUICK CHARGER)

  1. Check charging connector fixing bolt for looseness.
  2. If charging connector fixing bolt is loose, tighten charging connector fixing bolt to the specified torque.

-          Regular charge connector, 4 bolt

-          Quick charge connector, 7 bolt (charging connector and cable bracket)

Tightening torque: 5.0 – 2.0 Nm (44 – 17 in-lb)

NOTE: refer to GROUP 54D – EV Charging cable (regular charge) Removal and installation P.54D – 755, EV Charging cable (quick charger) removal and installation P.54D – 757.
