This bulletin applies to 2014-2019 Cadillac ATS, CTS and XTS, and 2016-2019 CT6 vehicles. Some customers may comment that the engine stops running after extended idle with the shifter in the Park position.
An engine run time out feature is standard on all push button start vehicles. There are two different scenarios for how the feature will work.
On 2014 vehicles: If the customer exits the vehicle with the fob in their possession while the engine is running and the shifter is in Park, the engine will shut off after 2.5 hours. If the customer is sitting in the vehicle with the engine running and the fob is in the vehicle, the PEPS system will reach out and look for the fob after 2.5 hours. If the fob is located, the timer will reset an additional 2.5 hours (total 5 hours). Following that period, the engine will shut off. If at any time during the first two scenarios, the shifter is removed from Park, the timer will reset and start over.
On 2015-2016 vehicles, if the customer exits the vehicle with the fob in their possession while the engine is running and the shifter is in Park, the engine will shut off after 1 hour. If the customer is sitting in the vehicle with the engine running and the fob is in the vehicle, the PEPS system will reach out and look for the fob after 1 hour. If the fob is located, the timer will reset an additional 1 hour (2 hours total). Following that period, the engine will shut off. If at any time during the first two scenarios the shifter is removed from Park, the timer will reset and start over.
These conditions are normal and require no repairs. For 2017 and newer models, the information can be found in the owner’s manual.
