This bulletin applies to 2014-2019 Volvo vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The customer may comment about an unusual whine or rattle noise at all times (code 8N), noise while driving or at engine shut off (code F1), noise while driving and during acceleration (code F2) or noise while idling (code ZE).
The noise may be coming from the balance shaft which is fitted in the oil sump area where the noise is most concentrated. An improvement of the shaft bearing has been introduced for replacement, and the new bearing was introduced in production as of September 2019.
If the engine has the concern, replace the balance shaft assembly. Note that it is important to adjust the new balance shaft with the correct tools according to Volvo service instructions, or the sound may occur again.
