Kia Recalls 147,000 for Fire Risk

April 21, 2021

Kia is recalling 147,249 2021 Seltos subcompact SUVs and 2020-2021 Soul wagons to address a problem with the 2.0-liter engine. An inconsistent heat-treating process for the piston oil rings can damage the engine that could cause a fire or cause the engine to stall while driving.

Dealerships will install software to alert the driver of potential damage to the piston oil ring.

A technician who finds an affected car will need to fit the car with a new engine. Kia will cover all work and parts at no charge to the customer.
