Kia Recalls 380,000 Cars Over Fire Risks, Asks Owners to Park Outside

March 10, 2021

Kia is recalling about 380,000 SUVs and sedans that could catch fire.

There’s a risk with the “smart cruise control,” meaning that an electrical circuit in the hydraulic electronic control unit could short circuit, which could cause a fire in the engine compartment, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Until fixed, the NHTSA recommends parking outside and away from structures.

You can also go to NHTSA and enter your VIN to determine if your car is included in the recall. Repairs will be free once they are available.
