EPS Reprogram Needed for Jeep Renegades

This bulletin applies to 2015-2018 Jeep Renegade vehicles equipped with EPS (electric power steering). The MIL may be on. The technician may find DTC C1013-49 (half module faulty – internal electronic failure), U1702-64 (electric power steering – signal plausibility failure), and/or C1214-87 (conf data code request message – missing message error set in EPS control unit).

Also, the customer may notice one or more of the following:

A “Lane assist malfunction/Feature not available” message is displayed in the electronic vehicle information center (EVIC).

“Lane sense off” message appears in the EVIC while driving, simultaneously turning the lane sense off.

Power steering system warning lamp illuminated in the instrument cluster.

Use a scan tool to verify that all related systems are functioning as designed. Record and repair as needed before proceeding.

Reprogram the EPS module with the latest software.
