New EPA regulations require all diesel engines manufactured on or after January 1, 2010, to meet lowered nitrogen oxides (NOx) standards. In order to meet these requirements most diesel engine manufacturers have chosen to utilize Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology. SCR-equipped engines require a solution known as Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), a urea solution, to enable this process.
