Chasing the Noise

Owners of 2017-2019 GM vehicles, such as GMC Canyon and Acadia vehicles equipped with a 3.6L engine, may complain about a rattle, tick or knock type noise.

Noisy Caddy

Some owners of 2016-2019 Cadillac ATS and 2014-2019 CTS Sedan vehicles equipped with a 3.6L engine may comment about a brief rattle or ticking noise that is heard when revving the engine in Park/Neutral.

This bulletin applies to 2013-2014 Chrysler Grand Voyager/Town and Country vehicles, built on or after Dec. 6, 2012, and on or before April 30, 2014. A rattle noise may be heard that sounds like metal against metal, coming from the right rear sliding door area while driving over bumps.

Erratic Cam Timing

Some 2005-2012 Ford Expedition vehicles equipped with a 5.4L 3V engine may exhibit an intermittent rattle noise/rough idle at operating temperature. The issue is caused by oscillating cam timing. DTCs P0022, P0021, P0340 and/or P0341 may be stored in the PCM.

Loose Oil Tube

Some owners of 2006-2012 Chevy Corvette Z06 or 2009-2012 ZR1 models may comment on a rattle or tapping noise from under the hood.

Irritating Caddy

Owners of 2007-2013 Cadillac Escalade vehicles may complain about a buzz or rattle noise during light acceleration around 1,200-2,000 rpm. The noise may also sound like a squeak, creak or tap which is coming from behind the instrument panel.

Chevy Rattle

This bulletin applies to 2009-2010 Chevy HHR vehicles. According to GM, “in rare instances” a technician may comment that they hear a short, sharp rattle noise from the front of the engine at start-up. Codes P0011, P0014, P0016 or P0017 may also be set.

Chevy Engine Abuse

Owners of 2011-2014 Chevy Cruze vehicles may complain about a loud engine rattle or knock noise, or that the accessory drive belt and the crankshaft pulley has come off. An inspection may reveal a loose or broken crank pulley bolt and/or flywheel bolts.
