Hesitation Upon Acceleration for Kia

Owners of a 2015-2016 KIA Forte (YD with GDI), 2014-2015 Sorento (XMa) or 2014-2016 Soul (PS) may experience a lack of power or hesitation upon acceleration. The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) may not be on and diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0087 may be stored in history. This is possibly due to a restricted low-pressure fuel line.

Begin by checking the fuel pressure at the low-pressure pump fuel line in the fuel tank using a fuel gauge kit tool number FPG2200. The gauge should display above the PSI shown in the list below if the low-pressure fuel pump functions correctly:

MODEL YEAR          MODEL         ENGINE      FUEL RAIL PSI

2015-2016..................YD..........1.6-T............ 69.6

                                                        2.0L.............71.8

2014-2016.................PS...........1.6L.............69.6

                                                       2.0L............71.8

2014-2015..................XMa......2.4L.............69.7

                                                       3.3L.............69.7

When the lack of power/hesitation occurs and the fuel pressure at the fuel tank is within specification, disconnect the fuel pressure gauge from the low-pressure pump and connect it at the high-pressure pump fuel feed line.

When the lack of power/hesitation occurs and the gauge drops below the afore-listed PSI specifications, the fuel feed line from the low-pressure pump to the high-pressure pump may be restricted. Replace the low-pressure fuel line from the tank with the high-pressure pump.
