This bulletin applies to 2011-2018 Jeep Compass and Patriot vehicles, equipped with a 2.0L DOHC engine. Replacing or updating a PCM on a vehicle with an incorrect replacement engine will result in a no-start condition which cannot be undone.

If the engine has been replaced (where numbers do not match), do not perform a PCM flash or replace the PCM unless it is a certified MOPAR engine built specifically for the vehicle application. PCM update/replacement can not be completed on a vehicle with an incorrect replacement engine until the vehicle is returned to the original equipment configuration. Confirm that the last eight digits on the vehicle’s VIN matches the engine identification number before proceeding with PCM software updates or PCM replacement. The engine identification number (last eight digits of the VIN) is stamped on the bottom rear of the engine near the transmission.
